Hamstring Strains in Basketball: What Every Hooper Needs to Know
A hamstring strain in basketball is a tear of the muscle fibers or musculotendinous junction in the back of the thigh, most commonly caused by sprinting, cutting, or explosive push-off movements. Grades range from I (mild) to III (complete rupture). Nearly one-third of hamstring strains recur within the first year, most often because athletes return too early without rebuilding eccentric strength.
